According to a study conducted by Kawésqar Lab and the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS) that gathers information on user behavior in e-commerce, 64% of residents of the Metropolitan Region reported having purchased an item through e-commerce last year.

Of these, 51% made purchases on the websites of large retailers, 35% in ticket stores (travel, entertainment, coupon books), 32% in supermarkets and home improvement stores; and 25% made purchases in international stores.

Breaking down the sites and users’ shopping behavior, the study found that Falabella.com is the site preferred by respondents, accounting for 35% of transactions. The following list shows the results among competitors:

1- Falabella.com: 35%
2- Paris.cl: 18%
3- Ripley.cl: 16%
4- Líder.cl: 13%
5- Sodimac: 13%
6- AliExpress: 11%
7- Mercado Libre: 8%
8- Dafiti: 8%
9- Facebook: 7%
10- Amazon: 3%
11- Others: 71%

The strong interest in online shopping due to the fact that users feel more comfortable and identified with this type of transaction, the greater number of competing retailers and the increase in the product offering, as well as improvements in shipping and logistics, make it clear that the growth of this type of operation will continue to increase in 2019. In fact, the CCS estimates that sales through electronic commerce could generate US$6.7 billion this year, a figure that would far exceed the US$5.2 billion of 2018.

Today’s consumer is more demanding than before and therefore the focus is on prices and availability of products. The focus should be on transmitting security and confidence to consumers with the treatment of data, in order to motivate those who do not even use digital channels to buy.

At Aligare we are well acquainted with this type of transaction, as we have been managing purchase orders for major retail companies for several years using our Digital Transactional Engine (MTD), a solution that is specifically built to manage online purchases and that also considers integration with BackEnd systems and with ticket and invoice issuing systems.

If you would like to receive detailed information about this or other business solutions, please do not hesitate to contact us and take the first step towards the success of your project.
